Rivalry Weekend
Back in Germany, we would get the games on really late in the evening, but I still remember the days of Pitt v Penn State, Oklahoma v Nebraska, USC v Notre Dame. At the time all the schools were really good and the games did not disappoint.
As I came stateside, I was able to see first hand the USC v UCLA rivalry in Pasadena. People covered head to toe in Powder Blue and Gold, or flying the huge Trojan flag. It was really crazy. Not until I got to Jacksonville, 9 years later, did I truly understand what college football rivalries were about. Florida v. Georgia comes to mind as being one of the best rivalries in sports history. Radio announcers drunk off their can on the radio talking about the game, two whole states warring against each other. It made USC v UCLA look like a small high school party compared to the prom blowout that these rivalries in the south had.
There is a little loss nowadays when i watch some of these games. I have no interest in Oklahoma v. Oklahoma State, FSU v Florida. Some of these rivalry games really make me yearn for the old days.
